Expertise

Steve clearly knows what he’s doing, and having someone like that in my corner makes me confident that I’m moving in the right direction.

I was well prepared for my A-race. Before this training cycle, I’d have said preparation was about the training sessions I had done, or the long runs I had completed. This was the first race where I felt prepared for what I was about to do, and confident and comfortable when the race started to get hard. This led to a huge PB, and a finish time I’d never have believed was possible.

I felt very prepared going into the marathon, I had advice covering all different aspects of racing, not just a very detailed training plan but also things such as nutrition and mental strategy. Nothing was left out and I had everything I needed to potentially run a great race.

The Milestone Pursuit has helped me get in the best shape of my life. It wasn’t easy but the expertise and support is second to none.

It was very straightforward and after a tricky initial start I managed to stick to the plan pretty rigidly. Running my own business being able to outsource the organisation and adaptation of the training plan just allowed me to focus on the running which helped massively. The checkins were really useful and allowed me to share any frustrations or concerns. I really enjoyed the podcast and general insight on the course prior to heading out to Boston. Generally the support on the mental part of the racing as well as the physical.

I felt very prepared going into the race. Psychologically, I knew how I was going to try and tackle the race, and physically, all the long runs I had done, particularly towards the end, which included a lot of marathon pace work really helped me feel as prepared as possible and this is all down to Steve and the plan that he set me.

Excellent communication and exchanging ideas. Flexibility, providing alternate workouts. Talking sense into my at times when I was thinking of overdoing it.

Being able to speak to Steve about any questions, worries, ideas I have has been the most useful element for me.

“As I told Ewan, I never thought I’d end up with a mix of Ted Lasso + heady stuff of Coach Beard sans facial hair (we’ll work on that), but that’s what I got. I’ve had some fairly stroppy coaches in the past. I received technical info from WKO5 and other sources that were incredibly valuable. I could trust those metrics, because it was data from runs I’ve done over and over again. One of my favorite reassurances Ewan gave me was “”we’re all perfectly imperfect and the plan is never fixed.”” Very Lasso-esque

I used to think that if a runner was fast, they’d by default be an outstanding coach. From prior running coaches, I learned that was inherently a false assumption. However, Ewan changed my mind again that fast runners can make brilliant coaches. He shares a lot of ethos that I do both in training and in life. So, that makes any session or critique easier to digest. I would often go rogue on my coaches in the past. I didn’t during this block and I’m so pleased I didn’t. I felt incredibly fit with a lot of power in my legs at the start line.
